Support Dutch

Why would you support the Dutch language?

The Nederlandse Taalunie (Dutch Language Union) supports Dutch, and so can you. Thanks to the financial contributions of the Dutch and Flemish governments, the Nederlandse Taalunie is able to fulfil all of its tasks as laid down in the Verdrag inzake de Nederlandse Taalunie (Treaty concerning the Dutch Language Union) and reformulated in the Meerjarenbeleidsplan 2013-2017 (Long-term Plan 2013-2017). The Nederlandse Taalunie gives the Dutch language a firm foundation and provides the language users with necessary markers. But, of course, much more can be done for Dutch. This is why the Nederlandse Taalunie is also looking for public-private partnerships and also offers support in funding acquisition for specific projects.

Which project can you support?

Studying Dutch in the United States
With your support, universities in the United States are able to offer American students a complete study cycle in Dutch, from undergraduate and graduate level to PhD and postdoctoral positions. One of the first funding acquisition projects supported by the Dutch Language Union is the embedding of Dutch studies in the United States: Unlock the key. Dutch Studies in the United States.

Tax benefits

In the Netherlands the Dutch Language Union is recognised as an Algemeen Nut Beogende Instelling  (Institution for the General Benefit) and in Belgium as a culturele instelling (a cultural institution). In the United States the Dutch Language Union has an American Friends of the Dutch Language Fund under the auspices of the King Baudouin Foundation United States. This means that there are tax-friendly provisions in place in each of these countries, making it attractive to support Dutch. The Dutch Language Union distributes non-earmarked donations across the projects described above.
